Getting Ready for St. Patrick’s Day

I have been working on a St. Patrick’s Day design for celebration of St. Patrick (also the birthday of one of my nephews). These are now on products in my Zazzle store.  Everything is customizable.

My store is loaded with various products that you can use to proclaim St. Patrick’s day, including a mousepad, tote bags, invitations, aprons, stickers, iPad and iPhone covers, men’s ties and much more. I even have some items for little Leprechauns.

For those of you aren’t Irish, you can be “Irish for a Day”.

Here’s wishing you the “Luck of the Irish”!

Copyright awareness and education – it protects all we create

Anything you create is protected by the copyright laws.  It doesn’t matter if its art, a design, written work, a craft design or a photograph. Its yours if you are the original creator and the creation does not contain someone else’s copyrighted works. You can write a poem, draw a flower, take a picture of your cat or whatever you choose to create – its yours from the moment of creation.

There are so many nuances of the law that at times it seem confusing and can result in myths. Some of these myths result in our creations being used illegally.

I have formed a new group on LinkedIn – CopyrightsArtist’s Rights to actively help educate and spread awareness of the copyright laws. I would love to have all of you who work with copyrighted materials, whether you create something or are a manufacturer, attorney or agent, join this group.

Have a beautiful, creative day!

Quilting for Charity

Do you have unwanted fabrics or UFO’s or PIGS?  You can help supply quilts for the opening of the VA Hospital in Las Vegas. They need 300 quilts by the hospital opening. I came across this worthy cause through Barb Johnson, a Facebook friend.

As a special outreach of Quilts 4 Cancer, this group is making quilts for the opening of the new VA hospital. They are all volunteer with no sponsors. They need quilts 50″ x 70″ or larger and are looking for lots of Military and Red, White and Blue but will take ANYTHING in a quilt, top or blocks. They have many volunteers that can sew up your “UFO’s” & “PIGS” as well as use up any unwanted fabrics.

Most of the veterans are men, yet there are some ladies, so they are also looking for quilts for the Lady Veterans.

If anyone wants to donate money (tax deductible), make the checks payable to Q4C and mail to P.O. Box 4702, Pahrump, NV  89041. More information about this event and for mailing supplies can be found on the Quilts 4 Cancer website.

I hope that you are able to help with this worthy cause for our veterans.

Valentine Nostalgia

I wish each of you a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

First ValentineAnd I want to share my very first Valentine. My mother was great at keeping things and I found my first Valentine in some things she kept for me. This card* was sent to me by my dad on my first Valentine Day. And I guess you can call it a mixed media card since the tuff of hair on the girl is some type of fiber.

Its wonderful looking throught all the saved things from my early years, thing I would not know about or remember.

Have a wonderful day and keep your treasured cards!

Back from the CHA (Craft & Hobby Association) Winter Trade Show

After attending the CHA Winter Conference and Trade Show in Los Angeles last week, I returned home feeling rejuvenated and ready to jump back into work. It was a great trip with both meetings and catching up with friends. Several interesting booths and demonstrations caught my attention and I want to share them with you.

Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts, the founders of Zentangle were demonstrating Zentangle techniques in the Sakura of America booth. Zentangles created during demoI love Zentangles so I stopped and created one. The Zentangles created my the attendees during this demo are shown together. Also pictured are Maria and Rick demonstrating on another day and a picture taken of me with them. The Lion Brand Yarn booth had a fabulous exhibit using yarn. The colorful male figure along with the tall shapes and hula hoops, all covered with yarn, made for a really colorful and exciting display.Lion Brand Yarn booth

The theme of the DCWV booth was a “Paper Runway” featuring fashions created with paper. Yes, all these gowns are created with paper and made for dynamic diaplays. My photos don’t really do the life sized dresses justice. DCWV Paper RunwayDCWV paper dressDCWV dress part of Paper RunwayDCWV paper runway dressIn addition, paper chandeliers were hanging in the booth.DCWV paper chandelier

During my last day at the show, I took a break around lunch and walked to Olvera Street which was close to my hotel.  Olvera Street is a block long street filled with restaurants and small shops and stalls filled with colorful Mexican merchandise. A couple of pictures below show a section filled with fun masks and star lanterns hanging from a shop balcony.  Colorful masksStar lanterns Olvera Street

Now, back home, I’m delving into my next project, a quilt book. I can’t wait to show you the fabrics I will be working with.

Stay warm and lets hope for an early spring!
