Happy Haunting! Send your spooky greetings with this black cat card. The cat die cut was designed by Brenda Pinnick for Sizzix. Since my own kitty cat is black, this greeting has special meaning.
To make this card, you will need the following materials:
Orange, black and green striped cardstock
Curvy edged scissors
Green ribbon
Star brads
orange buttons
hole punch
glue
black pen
Fold the card so that the top side edge is 1 1/2 inches from the side edge of the card bottom. Trim top side edge with curvy scissors. Arrange and glue items in place. Punch holes randomally. Cut a black piece to match the top with the side edge extended 3/4″ beyond the curvy edge. Glue to the back side of the card top.

Booooo! Halloween is rapidly approaching and I am posting a Halloween craft each week as part of Terrorific Tuesday. This week, I want to share with you this paper bag that I decorated to use as a Halloween gift bag or a trick-or-treat bag. In addition, this will make a cute Halloween lunch bag for you or your children.
I started with a plain gray gift bag. The spooky haunted house and the bat are die cuts using Halloween dies by Brenda Pinnick for Sizzix (available currently in craft stores). Other supplies needed are - black Sharpie pens(felt tip and thin tip), glue stick and black, white and yellow cardstock. Optional - I used crystals heat set with a wand for the cat eyes.
Draw ghosts and cut out. Draw and cut out black top hat and cat from black cardstock and a moon and window light from yellow cardstock.
Arrange haunted house, cat, moon, bat, and ghosts and glue. For the ghosts, glue the bottom point areas so that the tops can stand out from the bag. Glue the cat except for the tail.
Draw the word Boo and small bats.
If you are carrying a bottle of wine to a Halloween party, you can use the same design on a wine bottle bag, just spread the design elements more vertical.
I hope each of you is enjoying a nice fall and your preparations for Halloween festivities.

Fabrics are not just for sewing! Use the Meow Meow cat fabrics I designed for Quilting Treasures for scrapbooking or make some unique, one-of-a-kind greeting cards to show off your purr-fect sense of humor. I created these two handmade greeting cards, The Cat’s Meow and Kool Cat with the Meow Meow cat fabrics. They are easy, quick and fun to make plus you can be quite “catty” when making them. Click to see the card backs and inside of one plus free instructions.
I would love to hear from you so please post a comment. And I would also love to see any cards or scrapbook projects that you make using Meow Meow cat fabrics as well as any sewing and quilt project.
I’m busy working on another free project for you - an apron pattern. I will post it soon, so please check back.
Its been a few days since I’ve posted, but I’m happy to say that I have been busy working on my next fabric collection for Quilting Treasures. I can’t go into details at this time, but its a fun collection that I think you will just love!
Time flies quickly and Halloween is only a couple of months away (yes, really, it is - I counted the months using 2 fingers). My talented friend Brenda Pinnick has a new Halloween die collection with Sizzix and its simply to “die” for. I saw the collection at the recent trade show for the Craft and Hobby Associataion. The are just adorable - the entire collection of spooky Halloween scary stuff! (I borrowed the photo from Brenda.) They are perfect for the hand made cards, bags and your other Halloween scrapbook projects. Check out Brenda’s blog for additional ideas and because its just a great blog.
In addition to fabric designs, I’m working on some freebies to post here, so check back soon.
I went to visit Audrey Jeanne Roberts blog today and it was gone! She is a very talented friend who does wonderful scrapbook kits. (This is her latest kit - beautiful isn’t it!). Needless to say, I immediately contacted her to find out where her blog moved to. Not only does she have a new blog address, she has a new blog store as well as a new website! Boy, has she been busy, but that’s nothing new as she is very productive. I’ve often wondered when she sleeps.
I had hoped to see her this summer either in Atlanta or at the summer CHA show in Chicago, but she will be taking a fun trip with her husband. That had to be an easy choice to make!
So if any of you have not been able to find AJ’s blog, check it out with the links above and in my blogroll.
Craft stores have such a huge assortment of craft supplies available, from supplies for scrapbooking to supplies for painting, needlework, sewing and quilting, floral and gardening, beading and many other types of crafts. The good part is that you don’t have to figure out what to do with these supplies. There are many design projects available in all of these categories in magazines, books and project sheets as well as kits that include both the supplies and instructions.
As someone who has been designing for the crafts industry for many years, 23 to be exact, I thought I would give you a little background on how many designers work in getting their designs there for you.
A lot of craft designers are members of The Craft and Hobby Association (CHA). CHA is hosting their Winter Convention & Trade show in Anaheim, CA in February. This is the premier trade show for anyone involved in the crafts industry and is open only to the trade. Manufacturers present their newest and hottest products to buyers who attend from all over the world. CHA has a Designer Section for the designer members and offers several opportunities for designers to connect with manufacturers, publishers and editors.
Designers can set up a table in the Designer Showcase held one day during the show. Designers/artists create a table display showcasing their designs and portfolios so that editors, publishers and manufacturers can view the designs for use or publication. These are many of the designs that you see and use for creating your craft projects.
Another opportunity for designers is to exhibit in the License and Design Section during the show . The designers have a booth space to show their art and designs that are available for creating new products or in using products. The theme for this year’s show is Fashion Crafting and designers are also showcasing their fashion designs in the Fashion Crafting Display, our version of “Project Runway”.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of the designs created by friends as well as myself. The flower at the top is a Gerber Daisy Fabric Sculpture created by Lynne Farris and shown in her newest book “Fresh Felt Flowers” published by C&T Publishing.
The 2 designs embroidered on jeans are from the DenimBroidery embroidery kits I created for Janlynn, a needlework company.
Joan Elliott painted the Jingle Cats Christmas image, which has been licensed on tee shirts, fabrics for hospital scrubs, mugs and cross stitch kits.
Linda Wyszynski designed the embroidered pillowcase for Create and Decorate magazine, using buttons and embroidery to create a floral design for stitching on the pillowcase edge.
Vicki Schreiner painted the sports images which were used to create a scrapbook kit and stickers sold in stores.
I do have some very talented friends!
All the designers that I know who are attending the show, including myself, are now frantically creating new designs to present. So the next time you are using instructions to create a craft or sewing project, it may have come from one of these designers working to create craft projects just for you!
WELCOME! I invite you to visit with me in my studio. I create illustrations and designs for art licensing. I also design fabrics, quilts, needlework and textile products. I will share my latest news on illustration and designing as well as interesting tidbits on artist friends, books, traveling and anything else I run across. I would LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU and appreciate your visits.
